Why Should We Recycle?

In the last post, we talked about how only 9% of all plastics is recycled. That's certainly not a lot and I'm sure someone out there thought, "is this even worth it?" and while our recycling rate must improve, it is definitely still worth it! In the poster below I listed three main reasons why but purposefully left out one huge one: it is better for our environment and for us! Recycling means less plastic ends up becoming environmental waste. When plastic is left to degrade in the environment, it becomes microplastics which we eventually ingest through food, air, and water. Microplastics are much harder to get rid of than macro environmental waste. Next time we'll discuss microplastics and how they form, how they're classified, and how it affects us.

Hey Maddie !!

I really love how you go in depth about recycling and the importance of it. I also was shocked to learn from your posts that not all plastics are recyclable. I always thought as long as I was separating out my plastic I was good. little did I know that not all plastic can be recycled. I really like how you have an infographic of why we need to recycle. Thank you for your information.😊
